Considering a trip to a faraway land, but aren't sure what's required before you get on the plane? Many countries allow U.S. citizens to travel without obtaining a tourist or business visa beforehand, but many do. I'll break it down for you and guide you to full information on the government's website.
Countries That Require Visas for U.S. Citizens
Afghanistan
Algeria
Angola
Belarus
Bolivia
Brazil
Burundi
China
Cuba
Democratic Republic of the Congo
Egypt
Ghana
India
Indonesia
Iran
Iraq
Kenya
Libya
North Korea
Russia
Saudi Arabia
Syria
Turkey
Turkmenistan
United Arab Emirates
United Kingdom (requires an authorization only, not a full visa)
Venezuela
Vietnam
Yemen
Zambia
If you don't see your destination country on the list, you're probably in the clear. Just be sure, though, always check the U.S. State Department's destination page to learn about the most current requirements (if any) and all other pertinent information travelers should know. This includes any advisories, customs limits, driver safety tips, and messages from U.S. embassies located there.
Keeping up with the most current requirements can be a confusing — albeit mandatory — task to complete before you go overseas. As your travel agent, I will always triple-check that you're meeting all entry requirements for a smoother travel experience, no matter where you go!
